Bourail itineraries

Your days, at your pace. Use these one, two and three-day outlines to build a realistic Bourail trip.

The coast at Baie des Tortues near Bourail

Start with a flexible outline

These are our suggested self-drive outlines. They are not packages, and they do not imply that an activity is open or available on your dates. Confirm access and bookings separately.

Plan one main activity per half-day. Swap the order if the weather, your arrival time or operator availability calls for it.

1 day: A taste of the coast

Morning

Start at Roche Percée for the Bonhomme and coastal scenery. If you want a longer walk, allow about 1.5 hours for the official 4 km Three Bays trail, which is rated Medium and includes steep sections.

Afternoon

Continue to Poé for lagoon views or a pre-arranged water activity. Do not plan to swim at Roche Percée or Baie des Tortues. Baie des Tortues is listed as no swimming, while official wording for Roche Percée varies; follow current signs and local instructions.

2 days: Coast one day. Countryside the next.

Day 01 · The coast

Morning: start at Roche Percée for the Bonhomme and coastal viewpoints. Choose the Three Bays trail only if its Medium classification, steep sections and current conditions suit your group.

Afternoon: continue to Poé for lagoon time or one pre-arranged water activity. Keep the booking flexible around the weather rather than adding several separate stops.

Day 02 · Déva

Morning: call at Maison de Déva for current route information, then choose one trail, mountain-bike route or pre-booked activity.

Afternoon: leave room to finish the same activity at an unhurried pace or spend quieter time around your base. Carry water and sun protection; exposed ridge routes have limited shade.

Weather fallback: if a lagoon outing is cancelled, use the time for Bourail town and the museum after checking current opening information.

Choose a base for two days

3 days: A little more room to explore.

Day 01 · Settle in

Morning or arrival: stop in Bourail town for practical supplies, then continue to your chosen base.

Afternoon: find your bearings around Poé and keep the first day deliberately light.

Day 02 · Get outdoors

Morning: choose one Déva trail using the current route information, or start a pre-arranged activity.

Afternoon: continue with Déva rather than changing area. Leave margin for heat, stops and the return to your accommodation.

Day 03 · Follow the coast

Morning: visit Roche Percée and, if suitable for your group, walk the Three Bays trail.

Afternoon: choose a pre-arranged Poé lagoon outing or a slow final afternoon near your base. If weather rules out the lagoon, use Bourail town and its museum as the land-based alternative.

Check these before you go

Adding Bourail to a longer trip?

Two or three nights usually work better than a rushed stop when Bourail is part of a wider route.
