Plan some time on the lagoon

Poé lagoon can be explored by snorkelling, glass-bottom boat, kayak, paddleboard or a guided reef outing. The right choice depends on swimming confidence, wind, the group and whether you want to enter the water. A glass-bottom boat is the clearest low-effort option; guided snorkelling adds time in the water; a rental suits people who are comfortable judging local conditions.
Where does the trip start? Is equipment provided? What happens if weather changes the plan? Is the activity suitable for everyone in your group?
Choose a route through Déva

Domaine de Déva has marked routes for walking, mountain biking and horse riding across dry forest and hills above the lagoon. Entry to the park is free, but equipment hire and guided activities are separate. The park can close during periods of very high fire risk.
Get the current route information before setting out. Distances, elevation and access matter more than a photograph of the viewpoint. For equipment or guided outings, contact the relevant provider in advance.
Plan a day in Domaine de DévaSpend a morning at Roche Percée

Make time for the Bonhomme, the Néra river mouth and the viewpoints around Roche Percée. The Three Bays trail starts here and is rated Medium by the official trail listing: a 4 km return route taking about 1.5 hours, with steep sections and falling-rock risk.
Baie des Tortues is listed as no swimming because of strong currents. Official wording for Roche Percée is inconsistent, describing swimming as both forbidden and discouraged. Follow current signs and local instructions; this guide does not give clearance to swim.
Choose the water experience, not just the view
Boat, reef and turtle outings
Ouest Corail currently offers glass-bottom boat trips, guided snorkelling and reef or turtle-focused outings from Poé. Allow part of a morning or afternoon and book ahead when a specific departure matters. Confirm the meeting point, equipment, swimming requirement and weather policy before paying.
Best for: first-time lagoon visitors and mixed groups. Alternative: stay dry on the glass-bottom boat, or choose a short shore-based paddle if a boat departure does not suit.

Poé Fun Loc and Blue Pearl list kayak and paddle hire at Poé; Chez Joss Kayak lists guided routes around the Néra, Roche Percée and Poé coast. Rentals work best for confident independent paddlers in settled conditions. A guided route is the better choice when the river, mangrove or open coast is the point of the outing.
Carry sun protection and drinking water, secure anything taken afloat and ask where you may safely go. Do not treat a calm-looking lagoon as a guarantee of suitable wind or tide.

Poé is an established kitesurfing and windsurfing area, but this guide has not verified a current specialist lesson provider. Experienced riders should confirm launch rules and conditions locally. Beginners should not infer that general equipment hire includes tuition or safety support.

Diving
Scub’Addict offers introductory and qualified-diver outings from Bourail. Exploration dives reach reef and pass environments outside the shallow lagoon, so experience requirements depend on the chosen site. Reserve a morning, disclose certification and recent diving honestly, and confirm equipment and medical requirements directly.
Not the same as snorkelling: travellers wanting a lighter lagoon experience should choose guided snorkelling or a glass-bottom boat. Divers should also keep required surface intervals before flying or skydiving.

Roche Percée is Bourail’s recognised surf area. It is not a general swimming recommendation: currents, swell and reef access require judgment. Nekweta provides surf transport to reef breaks when conditions allow, which is relevant to experienced surfers rather than first-time beach users.

CAP ULM and Air Paradise offer scenic flights from Poé, while Vertical Lagon and Instinct Paramoteur list tandem paramotor flights. Nouméa Skydive operates tandem jumps above the lagoon. These are weather-dependent activities with operator-specific age, weight, health and experience constraints; ask before booking rather than assuming the whole group qualifies.
Allow a flexible half-day around the booked slot. A scenic flight is the lower-commitment choice; skydiving carries stricter participation rules, including a required interval after scuba diving.

The Bourail Museum gives the most straightforward independent introduction to regional history. The Bourail Fair is the major annual expression of livestock, agriculture, rodeo, food and Brousse culture, but only works when your dates match the event.
For a hosted experience, Bourail Shuttle Service currently lists a pre-arranged tribal day centred on a welcome, coffee, local history and shared bougna. This is not a drop-in attraction: availability and the appropriate visitor protocol must be confirmed in advance. Néméara’s Farm separately lists a rural cattle-farming and Broussard meal experience.

How to choose your day
Want a quieter day? Pick one coastal stop and leave the rest open. Want an active day? Plan around a single Déva route or a pre-arranged activity. Only have one day? Avoid building the whole plan around a weather-dependent departure.
Our itineraries combine these ideas into flexible outlines. They are suggestions, not guarantees of access or availability.
