BAIE DES TORTUES

Baie des Tortues

A protected and highly scenic bay on the Three Bays coast, with access rules that matter as much as the view.

What is Baie des Tortues?

Baie des Tortues is a protected bay between Roche Percée and Baie des Amoureux. It is important for loggerhead turtle nesting and forms part of the Three Bays coastal walk.

Why visit?

The appeal is the landscape, coastal walk, wildlife context and photography. It is not a swimming recommendation.

Visit as part of the Three Bays route rather than treating the bay as a full-service beach destination.

Safety and protected-area rules

Swimming is prohibited

Strong currents make the bay unsafe for swimming. Camping and bivouac are prohibited year-round, and dogs are prohibited.

During turtle-nesting periods, follow current local rules, keep distance from wildlife and avoid disturbing marked areas.

Read the practical safety guidance

How should you plan the visit?

Allow time within a half-day coastal walk. Bring water and suitable footwear, and check current access before setting out. The official Three Bays Trail is rated Medium rather than easy.

Nearby places

Roche Percée is the natural starting point. Baie des Amoureux continues the coastal sequence. For ordinary lagoon swimming, compare Poé Beach instead.
